Three-dimensional, complex, multi-faceted star-shaped paper ornament, with a complex polygonal structure.

Three design variations. Shapes reminiscent of lanterns. One spherical, covered with triangles and hexagons. Two more elongated, multi-pointed star-like paper objects. Covered with different triangular surfaces.

This DIY papercraft is a creative and relaxing project for anyone who enjoys creative crafting.

Learning benefits: fine motor skills, spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination. Developing creativity and imagination. Following Instructions, concentration, focusing. Hands-on learning, problem solving, confidence building.

Many skills can be developed with craft tasks:
Tool use, e.g. cutting with scissors, eye-hand coordination, folding. Understanding and planning processes, organizing work processes. Sizing: scale, proportional enlargement and reduction. Modeling, understanding structures. It can be said that craft activities greatly develop practical intelligence.

Why a craft project? Why a handmade decoration or gift?
If your child is too young to make it on their own, they can still help you with the process. You can involve them in completing sub-processes, such as coloring or making small cuts. They can also learn a lot from being able to accompany you through the stages of the creation process, for example, by helping to hold the gluing surface while the glue sets.

Let them try out the tools, e.g. squeeze the glue, fill the glue gun, draw a line with a ruler, thread the thread into the needle. With these initial steps, they will gain experience, become more skilled, and become more confident in using the tools. You can pay attention to their safety and show them the little tricks and tips. Creating together is also an important and valuable time and in the end, you can enjoy the results of your cooperation together.

As your child gets older, he or she will do most of the crafting, and you will only help if needed. Sometimes it is enough to just give verbal advice to help the process along. Sometimes you may need to show how to make a more difficult part or use a new tool.

You may also be working together as equal partners, sharing the process of making because you both enjoy crafting. You and he or she enjoy creating together, inspiring each other’s creativity.
