I get photos from many customers using beetles as party decorations. After all, many children are attracted to insects, they have special favorites, such as ladybugs, potato beetles, ladybirds, stag beetles.

I would like to thank the creative mothers for the photos of their DIY beetle-themed birthday party or children’s room decorations. It feels good to see that I can be a part of, and initiate, a creative process.

It’s nice to see how many different versions of beetles are made. It’s a special feeling when a craftsman surpasses my ideas. For example, someone who decorated paper beetles with beads, sequins, and rhinestones, as if they were jewelry.

The shape of the beetles follows biology, I can call the beetle models realistic.
I simplify the shapes so much that they can be made from paper. It’s a good challenge to translate organic, natural shapes into paper shapes.

The next step is to make your beetles unique with your own decoration.
There are many options. Some people are inspired by the rich shapes and colors of nature and reproduce them. Some people let their imagination run wild and move towards the atmosphere of fairy tales. Feel free to use all kinds of colorful tools, colored pencils, felt-tip pens, paints, acrylic markers, gel pens, chalks.

But you can also glue the decoration. You can use many types of paper or even other materials: e.g., the aforementioned beads, sequins, but also yarn, textiles. Wonderful beetles can also be made from shiny, glossy paper.
(Please note that glossy papers can break in curved shapes. They need to be handled more carefully, gently shaped, and curved before gluing.)

• Great craft kit for adult crafters too.
Gift for Cricut cutting machine users. Gift craft set for bug lovers. You can give it as a gift, so that the person celebrating will make it if you know that they like to spend their free time with crafts. But it is a nice gesture if you make it yourself and give it as personal handmade gift.
For birthdays, Christmas, housewarmings.

• Digital file as gift?
Do you like the project, but feel weird about giving a digital file as a gift? Complete it with a nice paper selection or a glue gun, which you give as a tangible gift and the recipient can use these when using the digital templates.

Great homeschooling project.
Summer camp art activity.
A great hands-on project for imaginative learning and motor skills. A great activity for kids and adults alike, teaching focusing and fine motor skills. a DIY project that builds fine motor skills, patience, and spatial awareness.

I also recommend the beetles vector templetes to teachers as a classroom art education project or for more complex school projects that combine science with art. Children aged 8-10 can already make them.
These paper models are excellent for homeschooling paper craft programs.

• Just for fun
You don’t really need a “reason” anyway, for those who like to “make by hand”, it’s a great creative activity. I’m not a big fan of criticizing digital tools, but I also really believe in the need to make objects by hand, whether it’s cake decorating, sweater knitting, rag doll sewing, portrait drawing, ceramic mug making, etc. I’m happy if you choose my design for your crafting time.

Many skills can be developed with craft tasks:
Tool use, e.g. cutting with scissors, eye-hand coordination. Understanding and planning processes, organizing work processes. Sizing: scale, proportional enlargement and reduction. Modeling, understanding structures. It can be said that craft activities greatly develop practical intelligence.

Using PDF file:
You will need access to a printer, paper, card, tape, double-sided tape or glue or glue gun, scissors, ruler.

Using SVG files:
Basic knowledge of Cricut software and of using SVG files with it is assumed.

Recommended paper quality: at least 180-200gsm.

How to use PDF files:
– Download & unzip the files
– Print the template
– Cut out the parts
– Fold along folding lines (Score it to make it easier to fold. Use a ruler and the tip of the scissors.)
– Glue parts together.

How to use SVG files:
– Download & unzip the files
– Preparing files with e.g. Design Space software for using Cricut (or Silhouett) machine
– Score and cut out the parts with Cricut machine
– Fold along folding lines
– Glue parts together.

Double-sided tape is the fastest way for making paper crafts. A small glue gun can also be useful.
