Carousel Advent Calendar

A paper carousel model that is also an advent calendar. Advent gifts can be hidden in small drawers. The drawers are located in a circle in the carousel base and roof structure. The drawers are numbered, like the small doors of an advent calendar. The carousel’s shape and structure follow the tradition of classic carousels. The figures “moving” around the circle: bear, deer, dog, rabbit, teddy bear, lion, horse. The animal figures wear Christmas-themed clothes or accessories, tasseled hats, knitted sweaters.

Making a spectacular and unusual advent calendar is at least as enjoyable as using it. It may seem complicated at first glance. The process of making it can be broken down into units, and as you go step by step, you will see that it is not as big a challenge as it initially seemed. Once the roof structure, the base, the central support column and the animal figures are ready, assembling them requires a little more attention.

The rods of the central column and the animal figures will connect the food to the roof. The rods can be made of paper straws. (Not plastic straws, because they are flexible and weak.) Paper straws are stiff and strong. If you don’t have paper straws, you can replace them with tightly rolled paper rolls.

The carousel can be made secretly, as a surprise, but it’s great fun if you involve the children in the making. Leave the cutting, folding, and gluing steps to the children according to their skill level. In addition to cutting with scissors or precise folding, they can gain useful experience in cooperation, division of labor, and organization of work. In the end, it will be nice to rejoice in the result together.

Leaving aside Christmas details, this three-dimensional carousel model is also excellent for birthdays and as a decoration for children’s rooms. The small drawers can hide treasures: rings, buckles, pebbles, shells, beads…

Using PDF file:
You will need access to a printer, paper, card, tape, double-sided tape or glue or glue gun, scissors, ruler.

How to use PDF files:
– Download & unzip the files
– Print the template
– Cut out the parts
– Fold along folding lines (Score it to make it easier to fold. Use a ruler and the tip of the scissors.)
– Glue parts together.

Double-sided tape is the fastest way for making paper crafts. A small glue gun can also be useful.
